The session explores practical methods for recording stimulus markers alongside physiological signals using BIOPAC hardware and AcqKnowledge® software. The temporal precision required in a study depends on the physiological response being measured. Slowly changing signals may tolerate modest timing differences, whereas brief neural or muscular responses can require millisecond-level alignment. Poor synchronisation may introduce temporal uncertainty, reduce response amplitude through averaging and compromise the interpretation of experimental findings.
Accurate event markers allow researchers to relate each recorded response to a defined stimulus onset. When combined with signal averaging and artefact-rejection methods, this approach can help reveal evoked activity that would otherwise be obscured by physiological and environmental noise.
