The DG2A Train/Delay Generator from Digitimer is a compact, battery-operated device specifically designed to facilitate precise, programmable stimulation sequences in neurophysiological and life science research. With its multiple operating modes and highly adjustable parameters, the DG2A enables researchers to control the timing of stimulation pulses with exceptional accuracy, making it an ideal tool for protocols involving nerve stimulation, refractory period studies, and time-locked responses.
This delay generator is widely used to trigger or time other instruments or stimulus devices, such as the Digitimer DS2A Isolated Stimulator, and can also be used as a standalone stimulus train generator. Whether you need to introduce a precise delay, repeat a stimulus at specific intervals, or generate a train of pulses, the DG2A delivers robust and reliable performance.
Core Features
Multiple Timing Modes The DG2A provides four distinct operating modes - SINGLE, FREE-RUN, GATED, and TRAIN - giving researchers fine-grained control over the delivery of trigger pulses. It can be used to create pulse sequences in response to external or manual triggers or can operate independently in free-run mode.
Independent Delay and Train Timing Users can set both the delay (1 ms to 1200 ms) and train duration (10 ms to 12 s) independently via front panel rotary controls. These time ranges can be extended to 12 seconds (delay) and 120 seconds (train) using internal jumper settings, allowing for greater flexibility.
Trigger Input Options The device accepts external TTL-compatible triggers via BNC input. An internal jumper allows configuration for active high or active low triggering, supporting integration with a wide range of lab instruments and acquisition systems.
Dual Outputs with BNC Connectors
SYNC Output: Delivers a fixed 200 µs pulse coincident with the external trigger. This can be used to initiate recordings or synchronize other instruments.
OUT Output: Provides either a delayed pulse or both delayed and non-delayed pulses, depending on the internal jumper setting. Ideal for creating pulse pairs or for delivering time-locked stimuli.
Visual Feedback Status LEDs inform users of device activity:
TOO FAST: Illuminates if a new trigger is received while the unit is still busy processing the last sequence.
TOO LONG: Lights up if the user selects a delay too long for the current configuration.
OUT: Amber LED flashes to indicate each output pulse delivered.
Portable and Battery Operated The DG2A is powered by a 9V (PP3) battery, making it lightweight and easy to integrate into any setup without requiring mains power. This portable form factor is especially useful for field work or setups where electrical isolation is important.
Compatible with Other Digitimer Devices Commonly used alongside the DS2A and DS3 Isolated Stimulators, the DG2A enables complex stimulation protocols including paired-pulse or train stimulation, a requirement in many neurophysiological studies.
Applications
Measurement of Effective Refractory Periods (ERP) The ability to control the delay between two pulses allows researchers to determine the time window during which a neuron or nerve fiber is unresponsive to a second stimulus.
Train Stimulation in Electrophysiology Deliver a defined number of stimuli over a set period to study habituation, synaptic plasticity, or adaptation in sensory systems.
Paired-Pulse Protocols Configure the device to deliver a brief train of two pulses (paired-pulse) to examine inhibitory and excitatory responses in neural tissue.
