BIOPAC
Versatile 4-Channel Multi-physiology System for Life Science Research & Teaching

The MP36R Research System is a flexible, high-performance platform for life science research and advanced teaching applications. Designed for seamless integration with BIOPAC’s powerful AcqKnowledge software, the MP36R provides everything you need to record, analyze, and interpret a wide range of physiological signals.

Whether you're building a teaching lab, launching a research study, or developing custom experimental protocols, the MP36R provides the versatility, power, and ease of use needed for modern life science applications.

System components

Each MP36R Starter System includes:

  • MP36R 4-channel data acquisition unit with built-in universal amplifiers
  • AcqKnowledge data acquisition and analysis software
  • USB cable
  • Power supply with US or Euro power cord (based on destination)
  • Digital hardware and software guides for easy setup

At the core of the system is the MP36R, a 4-channel data acquisition unit with universal built-in amplifiers, capable of recording a wide variety of physiological signals. The MP36R is designed to evolve with your research—start with the base system, then expand by adding compatible:

  • SS#L Series Lead Sets
  • Transducers
  • Stimulation hardware
  • Gas analysis modules

Simple, Streamlined Connections

Three types of input devices connect to the MP36R:

  • Electrodes – pick up electrical signals from the body
  • Transducers – convert physical signals into electrical data
  • I/O Devices – include pushbutton switches, headphones, and more

All sensors use Simple Sensor connectors, which:

  • Only plug in one way (no upside-down connections)
  • Prevent incorrect socket usage
  • Enhance reliability and ease of setup
Front Panel Connections
  • Channels 1–4: for electrodes, transducers, or pushbuttons
Back Panel Connections
  • Analog Out port (9-pin D-sub): for headphones or stimulation
  • Headphone jack (3.5 mm): stereo audio output
  • I/O Port (DB-25): connect digital I/O devices
  • Trigger port (BNC): receive trigger inputs
  • USB port: for PC/Mac connection
  • Power input, fuse holder, and on/off switch
  • Serial number label

Signal Quality & Filtering

To ensure high-quality, low-noise recordings, the MP36R includes:

  • Fixed Low Pass Filter (~20 kHz): Reduces high-frequency noise and enables anti-aliasing for IIR digital filters
  • Fixed High Pass Filter (switchable): Compensates for DC offsets in biopotential and transducer signals

Built-in Stimulation

The Analog Out port doubles as a low-voltage stimulator, allowing you to output stimulation signals directly to connected devices. This makes it easy to integrate stimulation protocols into your experiments without needing additional hardware.
