Smart Amplifiers

BIOPAC
Smarter Setup, Cleaner Signals, Greater Comfort

BIOPAC’s Smart Amplifiers simplify the entire process of physiological signal acquisition by integrating intelligent setup guidance, automatic configuration, and high-quality data capture—all while improving subject comfort and minimizing noise. These compact, specialized amplifiers are designed to be placed closer to the subject, which reduces cable length and dramatically lowers motion artifacts and ambient noise interference.

When used with the MP200 Data Acquisition System and the AMI100D Amplifier Input Module, Smart Amplifiers automatically configure signal settings in AcqKnowledge—including scaling, units, and derived channels—making setup intuitive and error-resistant. Smart setup prompts help guide users through the connection process, while pre-configured plotting ensures meaningful data is immediately visible during acquisition.

Biopotential Smart Amplifiers

Capture clean, reliable signals from core physiological systems with minimal setup:

  • ECG (Electrocardiogram) – Measures heart rate, RR interval, and R-wave amplitude with built-in filtering for clean cardiac signals.
  • EEG (Electroencephalogram) – Supports multi-band brainwave recording including Alpha, Beta, Theta, Delta, and Gamma frequencies.
  • EMG (Electromyography) and fEMG (Facial EMG) – Automatically computes integrated EMG and RMS for muscle activity assessment.
  • EGG (Electrogastrogram) – Measures gastric myoelectrical activity for studies of digestion and autonomic regulation.
  • EOG (Electrooculogram) – Captures eye movement with derivative output ideal for blink detection and gaze tracking.
  • ERS (Event-Related Signals) – Enables advanced temporal analysis for event-related signal changes.

Transducer Smart Amplifiers

Pair with BIOPAC sensors for real-time physiological monitoring:

  • EDA (Electrodermal Activity) – Outputs phasic and tonic skin conductance for stress, arousal, and emotion studies.
  • PPG (Photoplethysmogram) – Captures pulse waveforms and pulse rate using optical sensors, ideal for cardiovascular analysis.
  • RSP (Respiration) – Measures normal and elevated respiration rates using inductive belts or airflow transducers.
  • SKT (Skin Temperature) – Continuously tracks peripheral temperature changes related to stress, thermoregulation, or circadian rhythms.

Impedance Smart Amplifiers

Noninvasively analyze cardiovascular and physiological impedance changes:

  • NICO (Noninvasive Cardiac Output) – Measures thoracic impedance (Z) and its derivative (dZ) to assess stroke volume and cardiac output.
  • EBI100D (Electrical Bioimpedance) – Delivers magnitude, phase, and derived dZ/dt data for multi-frequency bioimpedance applications.

All Smart Amplifiers are auto-recognized in AcqKnowledge, and channels are immediately plotted with optimal range settings. This intelligent configuration minimizes errors and accelerates workflow, making Smart Amps ideal for both novice users and experienced researchers.
