BioNomadix Logger

BioNomadix Logger

BIOPAC
Portable, Wearable Physiology Anywhere - 24-Hour Wireless Logging

The BioNomadix Logger® is a compact, wearable solution for wireless physiological data logging, designed for use in natural, real-world environments. It offers continuous, high-quality signal acquisition over extended periods - ideal for applications requiring subject mobility, ecological validity, and experimental flexibility.

As the only system in its class to support simultaneous recording from up to three dual-channel BioNomadix Transmitters, the Logger allows researchers to capture up to six physiological signals at once. The device stores data internally and does not require a computer or receiver for standalone use, giving researchers the flexibility to collect data in virtually any setting.

Multi-Signal Wireless Logging

The Logger works in combination with BioNomadix Transmitters to collect signals such as ECG, EDA, respiration, EMG, EEG, and others. It supports real-time synchronization of signals from up to three dual-channel transmitters, allowing for complex study designs and simultaneous monitoring of multiple physiological systems. Data is stored locally on the device and later imported into AcqKnowledge software for analysis.

In addition to physiological signals, the Logger includes an internal three-axis accelerometer to monitor subject motion. This data is automatically synchronized with other recordings, allowing researchers to assess activity levels or detect motion artifacts. Sensitivity settings for the accelerometer can be adjusted through the Logger interface.

Dual-signal wireless BioNomadix Transmitters include:

  • ECG-ECG
  • EOG-EOG
  • PPG-EDA
  • SKT-SKT
  • DYN-EMG
  • EEG-EEG
  • EGG-EGG
  • RSP-ECG
  • dZ-Dt
  • Acceleromtry
  • EMG-EMG
  • EDA-EDA
  • RSP-RSP
  • Heel-Toe
  • Goniometry

Built-In Feedback and Interaction Tools

The BioNomadix Logger provides multiple modes of feedback and user interaction. A color display gives visual feedback to participants or researchers. A built-in speaker can be used for auditory cues, and a vibration motor allows for haptic feedback, especially useful in noisy or movement-restricted environments.

Subjects can interact with the system via the voice journal feature, which enables quick recording of audio notes directly into the Logger. Event markers and programmable alarms allow researchers to annotate the data or provide time-based cues during long recording sessions. A flexible external antenna improves wireless reception and signal integrity in field conditions.

Tap Mode and Accelerometer Functionality

The Logger’s Tap Mode offers a hands-free method for interaction, particularly useful when the device is worn under clothing or placed in a pocket. Light taps on the Logger housing can trigger functions such as inserting an event marker, starting a 30-second voice recording, or waking the device from standby. Tap Mode parameters—including threshold, latency, and window - can be configured to suit the needs of each experiment.

Note: When Tap Mode is enabled, raw accelerometer data is not recorded. To log full accelerometry data, Tap Mode must be disabled.

Improved Power Efficiency and Usability

A recent hardware update has improved standby performance, doubling the Logger’s shelf-life between charges when in sleep mode. New tactile buttons offer clearer mechanical feedback, enhancing ease of use in the field. A recessed reset button allows for a manual reboot if needed.

The device can be used either as a standalone logger or in conjunction with BioNomadix Receivers for live data visualization. When used with AcqKnowledge 4.4.1 or higher, researchers can synchronize Logger recordings with GPS input to align physiological responses with location data.

Data Analysis with AcqKnowledge Software

All data recorded by the BioNomadix Logger can be imported into AcqKnowledge for post-acquisition review and analysis. AcqKnowledge includes advanced tools for automation, signal scoring, event detection, and batch processing. Researchers can calculate averages, filter noise, run frequency analysis, and apply customized workflows to extract key metrics. The software is widely cited in peer-reviewed journals and trusted by researchers in physiology, psychology, biomechanics, and related fields.

System Options

The BioNomadix Logger is available in multiple configurations to suit new or existing research setups:

  • Logger unit with AcqKnowledge and one, two, or three dual-channel BioNomadix Transmitters
  • Logger unit with AcqKnowledge (for use with internal accelerometer or existing transmitters)
  • Logger unit only (for users with a compatible system and AcqKnowledge version 4.4.1 or later)
